In 2014, the MC-1 Foundation was started as the MC-1 Honor Run, a fundraiser motorcycle ride for the family of Sgt. Dave Baldwin of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (E.O.W. 1-26-2014) in Golden, Colorado. Sgt. Baldwin, whose radio call sign was "MC-1", was killed in the line of duty after being struck on his motorcycle by a wrong-way driver.

The fundraiser ride took place on May 4, 2014, with over 600 riders in attendance. This was made possible with the additional help of retired principal Frank DeAngelis of Columbine High School and KNUS Radio personality Peter Boyles.

In 2015, the same group of people decided to host the ride again to benefit Officer John Adsit and his family. Officer Adsit was severely injured while on duty in Denver in December of 2014. Later in 2015, the coordinators of the MC1 Honor Run created the MC-1 Foundation and officially applied for status as a 501c(3) Non-Profit Organization.

Since then, the Foundation has provided financial assistance to many Colorado public service employees (Fire, EMS, Police) who were injured while in the line of duty serving their communities. The Foundation commits to providing support to them throughout the year.

“The difference that you have made in my life and the other families that you have helped is quite exceptional and I know that you probably do not know just how much every little thing you do means.

Looking at it from a survivor’s side, I can tell you it means everything.

There is so much difficulty and so many dark days in this journey and you all bring light and hope back into the picture. It is so hard to explain the level of gratitude that I have (and I know from talking to the other people whom you have helped - they feel the same way) but I want you to know that you make a huge difference in so many lives."

– Crystal Baldwin, Wife of Sgt. Dave Baldwin, March 2019

Public Service Employees who are severely injured while on duty have significant financial needs that are often unmet by public or department support including, but not limited to, medical bills, transportation, refitting homes to support physical limitations, partial or complete loss of income, etc.

But you can help us help them! You can make a one-time donation or you can make an ongoing donation for as little as $10 per month! By making a monthly donation, you can become an MC-1 HERO! Your automatic, monthly gift allows the MC-1 Foundation to continue its mission of providing financial support to Colorado public service employees in the event they are injured while on duty providing service for their communities.

Please help us ensure we are always ready to help our Colorado First Responders!
